The definition of a lie is as such; to speak falsely or utter untruth knowingly, as with intent to deceive. to express what is false; convey a false impression.". With knowing exactly what the meaning of this word is now, you can understand a little more of why that word has such a huge impact and how it can make someones emotions change in an instance of knowing that has been introduced into their life. In the quote from the book it talks about how there was but a simple lie that was done in order to make things seem perfect, but perfection can often be known as deception and can later turn into confusion. When a lie gets brought out and introduced it makes you almost wonder what other dimension you have been wondering in, because this giant lie can swallow you whole in a second and make it seem as you weren't even the one living your own life, you were just simply there for the ride. By the simple quote that we talked about the main part that stood out to me was "for a fraction of a moment, my entire childhood felt like a lie: it was as if one of the pillars of belief that my world had been built on had crumbled into dry sand." This specific portion of the quotation stood out to me because of a recent event in my life. Imagine going from living with three older siblings, to then living alone, too living with a roommate. It's hard to end up opening up to someone, to trusting them, to live with them. Having a friend that you say you see "all the time" to actually having that friend live with you is a HUGE difference. You have to build that trust that they won't take anything, they won't hurt you behind your back, or even hurt you while you sleep. But more importantly you have to learn to let them into your life, tell them the little things going on, learn to share a space. So when the time came to turn that "best friend, partner in crime, person" into your roommate you should already know what to expect. Well from reading this, I think you can already tell boy was I wrong when I thought I knew who I was going to be living with. It all started when I thought I truly knew a person, but that ended up turning into the biggest learning experience ever. When you start to open up to someone not just as a friend but as a relationship its a completely different aspect. But when that person you let into your life as a relationship turns out to be lying to you, going behind your back, and pursuing your roommate who you're supposed to have that level of trust and respect with it completely breaks your mind. Not only is the one person you thought was your best friend, the person you live with betraying you but the person you are supposed to be romantically involved with also. This can instantly make ones brain toss, and turn, and completely become confused and sit there and wonder who has been living my life because I sure haven't. It also doesn't help your mental state when you knew it all along, telling others, only to have them tell you that you're insane, or just seeing things. But when that one single lie becomes a reality and gets brought into the light, everything changes. You feel as if you are a drowning cat that doesn't know how to swim. You get swallowed into the darkness of that lie and feel as if there is no escaping it, knowing that every moment from there on out you have to cope with it, live with it, and eventually try to move on. Throughout time we all eventually end up moving on with our lives wether it be by cutting ties with that person, accepting them back into your life and forgiving them, or going into denial and acting as if it had never happened. However you may decide to act upon this lie, at the end of the day the lie stays with you forever, it just is a matter of how you react upon knowing that lie has come to light.
