In the third and fourth chapter of The Transition to College Writing Hjortshoj talks about how there is a difference between a professors style of writing and a students. A predatory reader is someone who when reading can pause and be able to examine and explain the main questions of who, what, when, where, why, and how. Within this process you can then explain what exactly you are reading in depth. Without this trait you then become just a reader who is skimming through the words of a book, verses actually reading and having an understanding of what you truly are reading.
There are various ways of writing that each of us can interpret, but in the end there are five categories to the process of being a successful writer. The five categories of writing consist of 1.) prewriting and planning 2.) composing 3.) revising and rewriting 4.) editing or proofreading 5.) release. Within these five categories you are to have figured out what your main point is and what exactly you are trying to portray and then make an outline. After that step you are to have composed a draft based off of what you have written and done on your outline. Then you make your revision and then edit the revision you have made once you have done that you have your completed work.
